Abstract: The contents of uranium and thorium and the intensities of radium, alpha and beta in water and sediment of Xiangjiang-river are determined and the results compared with those of river water in other country and allowable standard of drinking water. We conclude that upper reaches of Xiangjiang-river are clean, but middle and lower parts are polluted slightly. Seasonal variation of the above situation is not large but this variation is quite clear with the passage of time, and in recent years the situation is taking a favourable turn.
