Abstract:
THE DETERMINATION OF~210Pb IN COAL,C0AL ASH,COAL CINDER AND SOILJIA GUOGANG(China Instiute of Atomic Energy,Beijing,102413)ABSTRACT A radiochemical method is described for the determination of~210Pb in coal,coal ash,coal cin-der and soil. The procedure includes sample dry ashing ,leaching with HCl(1+1),separationwith anion-exchange resin ,purification as PbS precipitate and~210Bi beta counting. This methodprovides a good separation of~210Pb from other natural and artificial beta emitters. The half-life of~210Bi determined from the sample sources is 5.50d ,which is close to the published value(5.01d).The lower limits of detection are 7.6×10~( ̄4)Bq/g for 10g coal sample and 1.5×10~( ̄3)Bq/g foreach and every 5g of coal ash , coal cinder and soil samples. The~210Pb contents in the analyzedcoal,coal ash,coal cinder and soil samples are 0.0316±0.0097,0.072±0.0760,0.0109±0.0035 and 0.0355±0.0173Bq/g and the chemical yields are 95.1%±2.5%,97.2%±2.O%,93.5%±1.6%and 95.7%±1.5%respectively. The enrichment factors(E_f)of~210 in coalash,defined as the ratio of the content of~210Pb in coal ash to that in coal,range from 1.60 to11.8.Although no expensive instruments are used,this rnethod gives precision results. Four sam-ples can be analyzed within 12h (not including the time for counting).This technique is suitablefor sample analysis on the environmental impact assesssment of the coal-fuel power plant.Key words Coal Coal ash Coal cinder Soil~210Pb
