Abstract:
The results of tritium separation by CO2-laser multiple-photon dissociation of freon-123 (CF3CHCl2) are described. The infrared spectrum of a mixture of CF3CHCl2 and CF3-CTC12 is determined, and compared with the infrared spectrum of CF3CHC12 alone. The comparison clearly indicates the four absorption features at 898, 947, 952 and 958 cm-1. In this spectral region CF3CHC12 is highly transparent. Using the absorption feature 947 cm-1 we have obtained a single-step separation factor of about 1.38 (in 1350 pulses).
