Abstract:
Investigations have been made on the characteristics of the oscilloscopic polar-graphy of uranium(Ⅵ) in solutions of acetonitrile, acetone, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol or tetrahydrofurane with nitric acid as the supporting electrolyte. The influence of organic solvents and crown eth.ers on the properties of the oscilloscopic polargraphy of uranium was discussed. Uranium(Ⅵ) shows an excellent reversibly reductive wave in the medium composed of actonnitrile and nitric acid. Acetone, methyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol may be employed in place of acetonnitrile. The determination of uranium in nonaqueous solutions by the oscilloscopic polargraphic method is, therefore, of wide prospect of applicability. In the present work, the oscilloscopic polargraphic method for analysis of uranium in uranylcrown ether complex compounds has been established. In this method a sample is first dissolved in acetonitrile, an equal volume of 4N nitric acid is then added and the reductive current of uranium (Ⅵ) measured in a straightforward way. The method is characterized by its simplicity and rapidity. Determination of a couple of samples can be accomplished in 20 minutes, with an accuracy higher than 2%.
