Abstract:
The study of amine additive effects in hot atom chemistry of nuclear reaction 19F (γ, n) 18F in the liquid fluorobenzene was extended to oxygen containing and sulfur containing additives. Curves correlating 18F retention to the concentration of additives ethanol, m-methyl-phenol, thiophenol, thiophene and carbon disulfide were plotted respectively.Similar to amine, the curves show that the retention is sensitively depressed by the low concentration additive and dully changed in the high concentration region. Evidently, it reveals ethanol and all the others are not inert but reactive chemically to the radical species induced by the recoil 18F.The probable mechanisms of depressing retention by various additives were discussed. We suggested that the capture of the radical species by H-,C6H5O., ,C6H5S4 and C4H3S of additives might be an important retention depression pathway.
