TARGET RESIDUES FROM THE INTERACTION OF GOLD WITH 8—24 MeV/NUCLEON 40Ar IONSSun Tongyu Li Wenxin Wu Dingqing Yin Xinmin Zhao Lili Zhang XiangQin Zhi Zheng Jiwen Liu Guoxing Jing Genmin Zhao Zhizheng(Institute of Modern Physics,the Chinese Academy of Sciences,Lanzhou 730000)ABSTRACTThe excitation functions and recoil characteristic of the target fragments have been studied from the interaction of gold with 82,121,162,200 and 242 MeV/nucleon 40Ar ions using nuclear chemical techniques.The possible formation mechanisms for various reaction residues are discussed on the basis of the recoil characteristic.Variation of the cross sections from heavy target residues with energies of 40Ar ions is indicated.Key words γSpectroscopy Excitation function Fission fragment Peripheral collision
