Simulation of Uranium Species in Different Groundwaters

    • PHREEQC software was used to study the chemical species of uranium based on the chemical composition of groundwater in Beishan, Southwest China and Junggar Basin in Xinjiang. The effects of pH, and temperature on the species distribution of uranium were studied. The results show that the species of uranium in groundwater mainly depend on the chemical composition of groundwater. Furthermore, pH, temperature and other physical factors also have a significant impact on the species distribution of uranium in the groundwater. Therefore, groundwater component should be given consideration in the repository site selection, followed by taking a consideration on groundwater of pH and temperature as well as other factors.
