SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SCHIFF-BASE COMPLEXES DERIVED FROM SALICYLALDEHYDE-L-TYROSINE AND Ln(NO_3)_3·6H_2O

    • Five lanthanide complexes are synthesized from Ln(NO3)3·6H2O(Ln=Sm,Gd,Dy,Ho,Tm) and a schiff base,2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)imino-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-propanic acid. The latter is derived from salicylaldehyde and L-tyrosine.These complexes are characterized with element analysis, infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, molar conductivity measurements, thermogravimetric analysis),and differential thermal analysis. The stoichiometry is deduced to be \(C2H5OH)(NO3),and the possible structure is proposed. The thermal decomposition reaction kinetics of Dy complex is studied by thermogravimetry.
