Investigation on Absorption of Hydrogen by Titanium-Vanadium Alloy

    • Two Ti-V alloys, Ti_(0.76)V_(0.24) and Ti_(0.51)V_(0.49), are prepared and their cell parameters are obtained by analysis of their XRD data with the software Material Studio. The pressure-concentration (isotherms) for the absorption of hydrogen from hydrogen gas by these alloys are measured at different temperatures. The P-C-T curves consist of two principal regions. The first region where the atomic (ratio) of H to Ti+V is less than 1.0 obeys the Sievert's law, presenting a solid solution alloy. Beyond the atomic ratio 1∶1 the second region appears as a hydrogen absorption plateau. Thermodynamic parameters are separately calculated for these two regions.
