Abstract
A procedure for preparation of porous PTFE hydrophobic carrier particles of 6 mm mean (diameter) is developed. A hydrophobic Pt-PTFE catalyst that could be industrially used for catalysis of water-hydrogen isotope exchange is prepared by immersing the PTFE catalytic carrier particles into (aqueous) H_2PtCl_6 solution. The catalytic activity, hydrophobicity and the stability of the active particles on the catalyst are studied in a parallel flow reactor at room temperature. When the tritium concentration in water is 153 Bq/mL and the linear flow speed of the hydrogen gas is 5.31 and (15.93 cm/s), 73.7% and 69.6% of tritium is respectively exchanged from water to hydrogen gas. The catalytic activity and Pt content have no change after the recovered catalyst is immersed and washed in distilled water for 145 d.
