THE ROLE OF SUPPORTING GAS IN THE ARC-DISCHARGE ION SOURCE

    • Experiments were carried out to refine the ion beam quality of a calutron ion source and increase its intensity by introducing support gas Ar into the ion source. Three elements (Zn, Rb and Er) were studied by means of the electromagnetic isotope separator F3 located in the Institute of Atomic Energy. The mechanism of the process is discussed briefly.
