Abstract
The complexation and the extraction behaviour of 1,10-bis(1'-phenyl-3'-methyl -5'-oxopyrazole-4'-yl) decanedione-1 ,10 (H2A) with thorium (IV) in nitric acid are studied . Experimental results show that the composition of the extracted compound is ThA2 and the extraction equilibrium constant is 3.8×104. Thorium may be extracted quantitatively from U(VI) and rare earths in 0.3 mol/l nitric acid(Keeping the ionic strength fixed at 2.3 mol/l with the required quantity of sodium nitrate) with a H2A solution in chloroform. Thorium is back-extracted quantitatively with 3.5 mol/l HCl when phase ratio is 1:1. Other properties of the extracted compound are also examined with UV, IR, 1 HNMR and DTA-TG.
