Abstract
The valence change of iodine by temperature, time, concentration of HNO3 and γ radiation in the mock-up system of a medical isotope production reactor (MIPR) was studied. The results and the analysis of the operation conditions of the MIPR indicate that most of iodine in the fuel is in higher oxidation states after operation, and only the oxidized states of 131I can be obtained with the MIPR.
