Adsorption of 90Y on Experimental Vessel Wall

    • 90Sr was obtained by HDEHP extraction from high level liquid waste. The decontamination factor for 137Cs is about 800. The adsorption of 90Y on polypropylene, polyethylene and glass was studied as a function of pH. For three materials, the effect patterns of pH on the adsorption of 90Y are similar. The adsorption on the three materials are so small that can be negligible at pH<3. Glass has a strong adsorption ability compared with polyethylene and polypropylene. The adsorption percentage for polypropylene is higher than for polyethylene at pH<7 and the contrary is the case at pH>7. Therefore, in order to avoid the adsorption of 90Y, it is better to choose polyethylene or polypropylene vessel and keep the pH of solution below 3 in the experiment related to 90Sr-90Y.
