Removal of Sr, Cs, Zr, Ru, Se, Ce and Sm From HNO3 Solution With Hydrated Manganese Dioxide and Hydrated Antimony Pentoxide

    • The adsorption behavior of U, Sr, Cs, Zr, Ru, Se, Ce and Sm on hydrated manganese dioxide (HMD) and hydrated antimony pentoxide (HAP) was studied. HMD and HAP have no adsorbability for uranium. Zr, Ru and Se are strongly adsorbed by HMD, while Ce, Sr, Sm and Ce are strongly adsorbed by HAP. Sr, Zr, Ru, Se, Ce and Sm in nitric acid solution can quantitatively be absorbed on the exchangers, by passing the solution successively through a HMD column and a HAP column. The results show that HMD and HAP can be used for the removal of fission products such as Sr, Cs, Zr, Ru, Se, Ce and Sm in the fuel solution from medical isotope production reactor(MIPR).
